

President Donald Trump’s net approval rating dropped to -13 percentage points, according to a new Economist/YouGov poll.

The survey, conducted between April 19–22 among 1,625 U.S. adults, found that 41% approved of Trump’s performance, while 54% disapproved. This marks a decline from the previous week’s net approval of -10 in the same poll.

Although Trump began his second term with stronger approval numbers than at the start of his first, his ratings in both April 2017 and April 2025 rank as the lowest for any newly-elected president since 1953, based on historical Gallup data.

At the same point in his presidency, President Joe Biden’s approval ratings were positive by 11 percentage points, according to YouGov.
The most recent Economist/YouGov survey is part of a growing trend in polls indicating a decline in Donald Trump’s approval ratings. The RealClearPolitics poll average shows that Trump’s approval turned net negative around March 13, coinciding with a week of escalating trade tensions with Canada. Since then, his approval has fallen to -4.1 percentage points as of April 22.
